Description
Houston Center for Literacy (formerly known as Houston READ Commission) is working to build a literate, prepared workforce by supporting literacy agencies and programs, engaging the entire community to join us in solving this low-literacy problem, and connecting learners with the education they need to be prepared for the future. HCL strives to create a literate, prepared workforce by building high capacity, effective and top performing literacy agencies and programs throughout the greater Houston area.

The Houston Center for Literacy helps to increase Houston's literacy landscape by promoting economic self-sufficiency. HCL's job is to strengthen literacy provider organizations which in turn offer courses in adult education, English as a Second Language, health literacy, workforce literacy, and financial literacy.
