Program areas at LCWM

The Literacy Center of West Michigan is focused on the needs of our learners - their goals, their availability, and their learning style. We offer multiple ways in which learners can engage with the Literacy Center, including one-on-one tutoring, work-related classes, citizenship classes, and Literacy programming designed for families. Our work is grounded in the belief that West Michigan will thrive only when we can access the assets of all our community members.
The Literacy Center continues to work to expand its capacity and build greater awareness in the community. Our efforts are designed to make West Michigan a region known for having one of the highest Literacy rates in the nation. We have made significant strides drawing social capital to our mission, serving more learners through greater outreach, and creating meaningful diversity with the board, staff and volunteers.
Volunteers drive much of the adult tutoring work of the Literacy Center. Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with an adult learner for two hours per week. In the year ended june 30, 2022, 225 organizational volunteers donated approximately 8,909 hours, an estimated value of 267,000.
