Program areas at Vision for Children
Vision for Children works in one of the poorest areas of Chile, La pintana. In this community only 30% of children graduate high School. This area is rampant with gangs, violent crime, drugs, child abuse and abandoment. The courts routinely take children from their homes and place them in group homes funded by the government. VEC works through an NGO which VFC caused to be formed So we could operate legally and with government approvals in Chile called Vision for Children, Chile. Through this non for profitwe Operate the House of Hope which assists young ladies who have reached age 18 and can no longer live at the government funded group homes. HOH provides housing, school funding, and provides for all the needs of these girls. We have had young women achieve university degrees and become teachers, nurses, beauticians, secretaries, and counselors breaking the cycle of poverty. we also run programs for the younger children in the community such as music lessons, tutoring in math and english and science as well as physical education programs and most importantly the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible. We have intems and volunteers come to the HOH throughout the year to help run programs and work on maintenance of the facility and construction projects. some + children are helped annually at the House of Hope
VEC has been asked why we don't operate a House of Hope in the US. We attempted to open one in Kingston, NY with a five unit apartment building donated to us in 2014. The building needed work and had code violations against it so we filed fora permitto do the repairs, hired an engineer at the city's request and the city illegally razed our building during the permit process. we sued them and gave them the property in exchange for $100,000. This was an out of court settlement through a court appointed arbitrator
