Program areas at The Center Foundation

Unique holistic mentoring program matches trained volunteer mentors with disadvantaged low-income women in the greater Philadelphia area including domestic abuse survivors, immigrants, disabled women, veterans, homeless women and formerly incarcerated women. Long-term one-on-one mentoring relationships provide support, guidance and practical assistance for participants struggling to overcome barriers to achieve personal, career, financial, and family goals. Professional staff and volunteers provide resource referral, job and life skills training, intensive case management, +support groups, and family activities. The program also provides families with emergency financial aid, free or low priced tickets to cultural, entertainment and sporting events and food, clothing and transportation assistance.
Mentoring program for pregnant and parenting teenagers and girls matches adult volunteers as one-on-one long-term mentors to middle and high school students in 10 school districts whose potential is compromised by poverty, overworked or single parents, incarcerated parents or dysfunctional family situations. Mentors provide relationships helping youth build self-esteem, improve academic skills and keep them in school, and prevent secondary pregnancies that would increase risk of dropping out. Mentors broaden teens experiences, help them develop their abilities and plan for the future, offer support, and encourage positive behaviors, attitudes and ambitions to empower youth to graduate high school. Staff and volunteers provide resource referral, job and life skills training, intensive case management, support groups, and family activities. Teens and families also receive transportation assistance & emergency financial or scholarship aid.
