Program areas at PLM Families Together

Emergency shelter - emergency shelter for homeless Families along with intensive case management either in one of our 3-bedroom apartments or in hotel rooms paid by Families Together. This program helps fill a growing community gap by providing non-congregant shelter for Families with children and prioritizes those most at risk of separation in a traditional shelter setting. Took steps to expand emergency shelter capacity from 6 to 21 units.
Affordable housing initiative - launched in 2019 in response to the growing community need for housing that extremely low-income Families can afford, Families Together now has a property portfolio of 17 units that are owned or leased by the organization and used for either transitional or affordable rental housing. Families in transitional housing pay a modest program fee and receive case management while taking steps to obtain permanent housing. Families in permanent rental housing pay no more than 30% of household income on rent and utilities.
Rapid rehousing - assistance for Families experiencing homelessness with housing search and placement, connection to resources, services, and basic needs (i.e., food, transportation, child care), financial assistance for start-up housing costs, and ongoing case management for up to a year after permanent housing is obtained. Helped 54 Families obtain permanent housing. Through all programs combined, provided 153 Families access to our holistic, wraparound support, including specialized tailored help with financial empowerment, employment readiness and behavioral health management.
Family empowerment and community engagement refers to a combination of activities including community outreach, engagement and education; group and individual volunteer opportunities; and family enrichment in the form of budgeting/credit counseling/money management services along with self- care workshops, employment and education assistance, parent and tenant education, and family enrichment activities.
