Program areas at Global Ocean Health
Global Ocean Health connects people who depend on healthy oceans with the expertise they need to protect the waters that feed billions and sustain more than 90% of earth's biosphere. We scout out new tools and opportunities to adapt, build resilience and tackle pollution that drives the largest threats to healthy oceans: climate change, Ocean acidification, loss of oxygen, and multiple related impacts. We support tribes, fishing communities, agencies, and businesses in crafting solutions that work both for people and the planet. Founded in 1994 as the National Fisheries Conservation Center, we focused increasingly on protecting oceans and tributaries that "make dinner". That work became so defining that we formally adopted the name Global Ocean Health in 2023.
