KPTS is a community licensed public television station serving south central Kansas. Since the station aired Sesame Street that first morning in 1970, it has continued to dedicate itself to offering quality, enriching, educational programming throughout the region. KPTS now broadcasts three digital channels, 8.1 KPTS HD, 8.2 KPTS Engage, 8.3 KPTS Create. KPTS is your publicly-owned television station that educates, engages, entertains and enriches Kansans. PBS programs such as Nova, Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, Nature, Masterpiece, Sesame Street, Curious George, and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Contentkpts is your publicly-owned television station that educates, engages, entertains, and enriches kansans.in addition to quality programming from pbs, kpts also broadcasts programming from other sources including the national educational Telecommunications association, american Public television, the bbc, and other program providers.kpts also works with other local producers to broadcast programs including street rodding american style, positively Kansas and hatteberg's people.kpts has also partnered with the tallgrass film festival to encourage and broadcast films produced by Kansas filmmakers. Productions submitted are reviewed to meet kpts standards for quality and content.local programs Kansas week and one on one are produced regularly. Documentaries produced include "brands born here", "wichita now", "piatt street", "david parks gi diary", "wichita vortex", "lost theaters of wichta", and numerouis short videos for the veterans coming home inititive on-line and broadcast.local content is broadcast on two of kpts' three digital channels: 8.1 and 8.2. Local productions are also available for viewing on-line at kpts.org.
Technologya significant portion of kpts' mission is derived through the use of technology. Kpts began broadcasting on its new digital transmitter monday, february 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. a low power broadcast was added in the wichita area to improve reception in the southeast quadrant of the coverage area beginning november 10, 2013. A new microwave stl system was installed in fiscal year 2016. Server technology and automation upgrades were made in fiscal year 2018.
