Program areas at John Hay Initiative
Policy working groups: the John Hay Initiative (jhi) has 21 policy working groups, comprised of 250 individual volunteers. Each group meets every 4-8 weeks, with the focus of a central discussion to share information and reach policy recommendations useful to elected officials and thought leaders.
Events: the jhi convenes larger events, pulling together leadership from jhi working groups as well as key policy makers and thought leaders from within the foreign policy industry. These events serve as a venue for hosting a central conversation about some of the most important issues facing the united states in the foreign policy, defense, and intelligence spheres.
Publications: the jhi regularly produces publications for distribution. The jhi bulletin is published twice monthly, with in-depth policy backgrounders and issue briefers produced on an ad-hoc basis. In 2016, 13 bulletins, 24 backgrounders, and 33 pre-briefing papers were published and distributed. The book project, completed in 2015, which included an e-book and website, featuring 27 jhi experts outlining a 2016 foreign policy, was promoted in 2016 and sales initiated.
