Program areas at Honor Courage Commitment
Veteran Entrepreneur Training (VET) Program Launched 2011, our flagship, four-phase Veteran Entrepreneur Training (VET) Program is designed to guide veteran entrepreneurs through every stage of the business lifecycle- from initial concept to measurable business growth. Coursework includes Starting a Business, part of the SMU Entrepreneurship Certification Program under the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship with the Cox School of Business. Other classes, such as Applied Entrepreneurship, help veterans bring small business ideas to fruition. Additional classes on business etiquette, sales techniques, networking, communications, mental health, social media and community service-as well as lectures from successful entrepreneurs -are included in the syllabus. The VET Program is divided into four phases and each module specifically addresses critical milestones of sustainable business growth: PHASE 1: RECON(concept); PHASE 2: PRE DEPLOYMENT (formation); PHASE 3: DEPLOYMENT (validation); PHASE 4: OCCUPATION (growth). Furthermore, the VET Program provides a healthy business ecosystem where veteran owned businesses forge partnerships and strategic alliances, thereby increasing the likelihood of profitability and long-term growth. Advanced Career Training (ACT) Program The goal of our Advanced Career Training (ACT) Program is to help veterans prepare for a new career search, regardless of whether they are transitioning back to the civilian workforce or is pursuing the next stage of their career. Participants are counseled on resume and cover letter best practices-and how to effectively use web-based and social media resources-to attract the attention of leading employers HCC leverages community relationships with human resources and hiring professionals for realworld feedback on how to refine and strengthen interview performance, as well as personal branding techniques. HCC plans several social events throughout the year for alumni-including ACT and VET Program particiapants-to expand their professional network and increase their marketability. Fellows Program The Fellows Program focuses on building camaraderie amongst veterans-many of whom have missed out on this opportunity since leaving active duty. Former HCC program participants return to the fold to form bonds and encourage a sense of community. From service to the community to therapeutic classes -painting, yoga, cooking, and equine events, as well as fishing and camping trips- members of the Fellows Program will have access to a myriad of opportunities to better foster a "I am valid and I belong" mindset.
