Program areas at Chicago Diabetes Project

Support research scientists and physicians to functionally cure diabetes through islet cell transplantation. Three goals are pursued. First, seek FDA approval of islet cell transplantation with systemic immunosuppression to treat brittle type I diabetic patients. Second, develop a way to safely encapsulate islets so that no long-term immunosuppresion is needed. Third, develop technology to reproduce human islets to have an unlimited source of glucose responsive insulin secreting cells. In addition, the foundation raises awareness of type I diabetes through events and assists in the purchase of research equipment
