Feed nicaragua meal packing, shipping, & distribution as a means to stretch our partner Christian schools' imited resources while improving the nutritional status of the students, we pack ed a record 869,141 nutritious dry meals which were distributed primarily in schools, & through other ministry partners, including church-based child outreach programs & freestanding ministries the meal packing was done around the u s using more than 2,172 volunteers, & over 4,500 volunteer hours, at 23 events, sponsored by churches & schools the dry rice, soy, & vitamin enriched casserole dish can be prepared by the receiving ministry in 20 minutes, & is often the only meal of the day for the recipient children who are malnourished had difficulty learning & have compromised immune systems, making them susceptible to infections money previously spent by trying to meet the minimal caloric needs of only the very youngest students, can now be spent on school opera tions, and the older children who also have malnutrition, can now be fed as well when the containers of the meals are shipped, we add donated school supplies, desks, chairs, computers, and other equipment, as well a layettes, hygiene kits, clothing, Christian books & materials in spanish for students & pastors to the container in 2015, we shipped a total of 540 foot containers and 1-20 foot (76 tons) of meals & supplies over 100 different ministries benefit from these shipments each month. Christian education nice continued our Christian school sponsorship program with partial support of 5 schools, with a total enrollment of over 1,100 students this funding went to the schools' operational expenses some parents pay a small monthly tuition children must attend half day sessions, often with one grade using the classroom in the morning, and the other in the afternoon in some of the schools the schools we assist are in high poverty areas, where many of the children would not be able to attend school if this school was not available to them approximatly 45-66% of the children in nicaragua do not complete 6th grade in a country with a population of over 6 million, of which 53% are under the age of 25 nicaragua is the second poorest country in our western hemisphere nice sponsored fhe formation of an association of nicaraguan Christian schools (anec) which is operated by nicaraguans this organization pro vides a vehicle for Christian school administrators & teachers to network among themselves, to set standards of practice in their profession, to share solutions to governmental paperwork & regulations, & to provide continuing education opportunities for teachers with little personal resources & limited education themselves nice sponsors a yearly 2 day educational retreat for teachers at which teachers recieve boxes of used & new school supplies, supplies that they would not otherwise have the resources to purchase. Leadership of short-term mission teams tonicaragua nice provided organization & leadership of 6 short-term mission teams to nicaragua in 2015 a total of 75 team members, children & adults from around the us, participated in a wide variety of mission activities they brought layettes & hygiene kits items to new mothers & cancer patients in the local charity hospital, organized bible schools in 9 churches & schools; helped with construction on 3 churches & a parsonage, assisted several very poor pastors with medical bills, purchase of food, & education of their children. Sponsored a church planting conference for 50 pastors, and a leadership training conference for 70 attendees, and visited and built relationships with children (including sponsor children and adults at schools and churches).
