Description
Womens Division Christian Service Gum Moon Residence Hall was established by the Methodist Church to address the unmet needs of women and children in geographic and social transition. It provides a safe sanctuary to live in and offers family support programs that serve more than 4,000 families through various program activities such as outreach, parenting education series, and one-time parenting consultations. In 2022, Gum Moon also received grants for basic needs assistance for San Francisco families with children aged 12 and younger affected by COVID-19.

Program areas at Womens Division Christian Service Gum Moon Residence Hall

Family Support Programs: In 2022, our family support programs served more than 4,000 families (with infants and children/youth through age 17) through various program activities, including: outreach; curriculum-based parenting education series; one-time parenting education workshops; parent-child interactive groups; parent/peer support groups; parent leadership development; drop-in playgroups; grandparent support groups; early literacy groups; ESL classes; and information and referral services.
Gum Moon Transitional Housing Program: In 2022, Gum Moon provided 3,529 bed- nights to 15 women who were enrolled in the agencys transitional housing program for low-income women who were survivors of domestic violence. Another 15 women were enrolled in our permanent housing program: Gum Moon providing 5430 bednights
Other Programs In 2022, Gum Moon Enhancement for COVID Supports grants from SF Department of Early Childhood - First 5 San Francisco. These grants enabled us to provide basic needs assistance to San Francisco families with children ages 12 and younger who have been financially impacted by COVID. We provided 698 families with diapers and wipes, gift cards to purchase food and other basic essentials, assistance with payments of utility bills and medical bills. In 2022, we had enrollment for Summer School program with 50 students. We implemented a hybrid model with both online and in-person activities. The students participated in online classes Monday through Thursday. In addition to the academic courses (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies), they also engaged in arts and crafts. In addition, they could select one elective course. On Fridays, they met in person for field trips at the Presidio, Bowling, Movies and Fishing trips.
