Mental health educationsince the previous update, the Psychiatry residency program went from a full complement of 16 residents to currently training 15 residents. This was due to a process in Psychiatry training where a current resident can start a child Psychiatry fellowship program at the start of their pgy 4 year. At the start of this academic year, dr. james chambliss fast tracked into a child Psychiatry fellowship. The program had a successful site visit that resulted in obtaining a full 10-year accreditation status with the accrediting body. This year, we expect to graduate our second class of residents june 17, 2023. At this time, three out of four graduating residents have secured jobs after graduation. One resident will remain in Iowa working for Unitypoint health des moines. Another resident will practice Psychiatry out of state. And a third resident will start a fellowship at stanford university. This is a 25% retention rate for the current year. The program continues to have several rotations that occur with state agencies, the va, state correctional facilities, and local/rural clinical practices. We currently employ 15 residents, one program coordinator, one program director, and several core residency faculty. The program continues to be successfully located on two campuses in des moines, (Broadlawns medical center and Unitypoint health). In addition, residents have clinical rotations at the va hospital in des moines.
