Union County Happy Pack provides a weekly, take-home food program for children who lack access to food when school meals are unavailable. Backpacks with nonperishable foods are sent home with children who require sustenance on weekends. The program feeds 275 kids per week during the school year and relies on grants and United Way funding to support extra food distribution during long breaks at Christmas and Fall Break. Each family also receives a food voucher for use at local grocery stores during extended breaks.
