For over 30 years, the Max Warburg Courage Curriculum (MAXCourage) has supported students and teachers in Boston and beyond with our free English Language Arts and Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum. MAXCourage was initially created to serve Boston Public Schools along with Boston parochial, charter, and independent schools. Remaining in Boston for 30 years and continuing today, MAXCourage has been, in recent years, able to expand to other MA Gateway Cities such as New Bedford, Barnstable, and Malden, with plans in place for further expansion in other MA Gateway Cities where the need is great. Approximately 6,300 children and 100 teachers worldwide participate in the program each year.In fiscal year 2023, MAXCourage expanded national participation by 44% to meet the demand for teachers and student SEL and ELA academic needs post pandemic. Additionally, a new out-of-school time program, the MAXCourage Writer's Workshop Series, offered access to curriculum and an essay contest for those in after-school programs. Access was also expanded into the summer of 2023 for those in summer camps. The annual publication of student essays, The Courage of Children: Boston and Beyond, reflected this growth with a book that was 33% larger than in prior years.
