Program areas at The Griefcare Place

In 2022 The Griefcare Place provided 2,446 hours of grief support services free of charge to 183 individuals. There were 107 support group meetings plus 23 special programs held. Participants in our groups and programs gain knowledge and understanding of practical ways to work through The four tasks of mourning: 1) accept The reality of The loss; 2) process The pain of grief; 3) adjust to a world without The deceased; and, 4) find an enduring connection with The deceased while moving forward with life. Our support groups run continuously and are open ended, allowing participants to participate for as long as they feel The need. This is important since The time needed to grieve and heal varies depending on The person and their circumstances.
The Griefcare Place maintains a memorial garden; a beautiful, serene space for anyone to rest, relax and remember those who now reside in their hearts. A lending library is maintained and updated with materials specific to grief and grieving in a variety of formats (print, video, audio); materials may be borrowed at no charge. The Griefcare Place also provides outreach services to local businesses and organizations; services include grief related materials and presentations and peer support.
Specialty programs held in 2022 included: game nights, which were held to provide an outlet for social activity in a safe environment; and, art therapy, which allowed grievers to express their grief instrumentally through a facilitated craft making activity.
