Program areas at The Culinary Trust
Scholarships, Grants and Professional Development Program: As the philanthropic partner of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, co-founded by the late Julia Child in 1984, The Culinary Trust has awarded nearly $1,500,000 through its scholarship program, assisting more than 500 talented individuals from all over the world in their pursuit of culinary knowledge and education. Each year, The Culinary Trust partners with a variety of culinary schools (based on donor commitment and roster changes year to year)and nonprofits focusing on youth nutrition education and hunger relief to offer scholarships and professional develoment internships. Also, The Culinary Trust and The Boston Foundation both offer an independent study grant to a culinary professional doing research and writing outside the US. All scholarships, grants and professional development opportunities are application based and are open to anyone who meets the qualifying criteria; the awardees are selected through a rigorous evaluation process by a team dedicated to application review.
Kids in the Kitchen: The Culinary Trust promotes the importance of cooking with children with an emphasis on engaging culinary professionals to get active in Kids in the Kitchen related issues. In partnership with the International Association of Culinary Professionals, we support the development of programs that both motivate and inspire young people to learn how to cook while making beneficial food choices a part of a healthy life style. We also provide free curriculum resources for teaching nutrition and healthy cooking to kids in grades k-12. The Culinary Trust partners with The White House's "Let's Move" initiative and support culinary professionals who want to be actively engaged in improving the health af our nation's youth. An important part of that support is our "Chefs move to Schools" grants, which provide funds for culinary professionals to help our children eat right by teaching them about food, nutrition and cooking. Funds can be used from garden to table and culinary professionals may seek funding for any program that promotes health and wellness in schools. For example, the grant may be used to plant a garden, teach a class, promote or create a wellness program for students or parents or assist in creating a school curriculum that focuses on healthy eating. In order to qualify, the grant applicant must have the support of the school pricipal and,in some cases, additional school personnel.
