Program areas at The Attention Center

Founded in 2011 by Jill Zupon, the mother of two ADHD children, The Attention Center provides 360degree comprehensive and cohesive care for children, adults and families affected by ADHD and autism. Jill identified the need for the Center when years earlier, after spending four years working with several Cleveland specialists, she was unsuccessful in having her child properly diagnosed, or being given a treatment plan to address his poor academic performance, low selfesteem and to help with the risky behaviors that he began to develop. After several weeks of careful research Jill pieced together a way to get her son the help he needed. She found a promising team of specialists, strangers to each other, who agreed to work as a team to properly diagnose him, and to create a treatment plan. With their diverse areas of expertise, together they were able to address her sons' issues, which led to a plan for success.Years later, in 2011 Jill decided to act on her dream and to open a Center where everything needed to treat ADHD and autism could be found under one roof. In her research, she found Dr. Edward Hallowell, child and adult psychiatrist, a leading ADHD expert and author and coauthor of many books on the topic of ADHD. Jill contacted Dr. Hallowell and recruited him to help her develop a Center in Cleveland that would utilize his strengthsbased approach. This approach involves a team of specialists to identify and treat issues of inattention, behavior, learning challenges, developmental delays and strained relationships with family and peers. Once learning challenges and other issues are identified and addressed, then focus can be placed on an individuals' strengths. Dr. Hallowell is a graduate of Harvard University and Tulane School of Medicine. He was a member of the faculty at the Harvard Medical School for 21 years until he retired from academics. He is the founder of The Hallowell Centers in Sudbury, Massachusetts and in New York City. Known for his bestselling books, Driven to Distraction, Answers to Distraction and Delivered from Distraction, which have sold over one million copies. Today, he serves as the Clinical Director for The Attention Center.Initially founded as an Ohio for-profit corporation, Jill personally funded the Center and continues to serve as the Executive Director, managing and guiding the Centers' growth, often working 60 hours per week or more to meet its demands. The practice model she developed has been proven to work when followed carefully. However, providing these services to meet the growing needs of the community requires challenging expenses that must be met. In addition to ADHD, The Center provides services that include drug abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, autism, as well as depression and anxiety. The Attention Center helps adults with employment, finances, anger management, and more. The highlytrained and experienced team of professionals at The Attention Center also reaches out to help schools on the topics of bullying and violence.Success for clients of The Attention Center is achieved by using science-based diagnoses and testing, and then modeling a care plan that is custom for each individual. Over the past four years The Center has helped over 1,000 individuals affected by ADHD and autism to reach their full potential, to achieve success, and to live their lives to the fullest.
