Annual conference: the annual conference offers the premier opportunity for face-to-face interaction, learning, and relationship building between the full diversity of members, prospective members, thought leaders, and industry partners. Here the organization facilitates cross pollination among geographically and professionally diverse membership to the mutual benefit of all. The 2019 annual conference was held in cleveland, Ohio. The event offered more than 100 educational sessions and workshops that explored the latest trends in gathering, organizing, analyzing and sharing information and knowledge.
Leadership development: the leadership development program facilitates the governance/leadership roles within the Association by supporting the activities of the board of directors, committees, chapters, divisions, caucuses, and other representatives of the organization.
Membership: sla offers members access to exceptional experiences, vibrant communities, educational resources, and essential tools for success. Sla members-stay on top of the latest industry trends and issues through sla's online magazine, information outlook, and our social media channels; earn professional credentials and skills with sla webinar recordings, conveniently archived online; develop rewarding professional relationships at local chapter meetings and events and discipline-specific programs and at the sla annual conference; and develop leadership, marketing and technical skills by taking advantage of sla volunteer opportunities.professional development: the primary vehicle through which professional development is accessed by members is sla's online learning portal, which provides an excellent source of professional development opportunities including continuing education programs, webinars and leadership training. Mini or regional conferences offer members another face-to-face opportunity to dig deeper into a Special interest, subject area, or regional matter and to do so with a selection of industry partners.publications: information outlook magazine was published monthly from 1997-2008, eight times per year from 2009-2011, and six times per year from 2012-2019. It ceased publication with the march-april 2020 issue. Information outlook contained: articles on trending topics such as data curation, digital asset management, bibliometrics, and value co-creation;columns about technology, copyright law, and other issues of perpetual interest; and interviews with sla members, offering a close-up look at information professionals in different disciplines, work environments, and countries.current publications: information insights is a weekly curated e-newsletter that keeps sla members apprised of recent developments in the information and library fields. Each week, information insights delivers updates on knowledge management, data visualization, academic research, and other topics of interest to Special librarians and information professionals. Information insights is a free benefit of sla membership.career services: sla's career center provides access to job opportunities and career resources and publications.
Public affairs and marketing: includes sla's communications, public relations, marketing, and public policy initiatives. Various efforts include printed, oral, and recorded presentations; press functions such as press releases, scholarship recognition, photography and meetings with press; marketing of products and services through print, electronic, exhibitions. Public policy includes outreach to members, collaborative efforts with other organizations to inform and most effectively educate members of issues which may affect them.
