Program areas at Southern Pines Land and Housing Trust
Formerly the playground of the campus of the Southern Pines primary school, blanchie carter park has been added to the towns list of public parks. In order to open the park to the public, splht had to replace the aging playground equipment that was deemed unsafe for children. In 2023, enouth funds were raised at our annual fundraiser to purchase new equipment for the playground. We installed the equipment late 2023, and officially opened to the public in july 2024. The equipment was capitalized.
Museum & cultural programs - splht will open the first, professionally developed african american museum in moore county. In 2023, splht hired a curator to create a permanent exhibit for the museum. The expenses were related to that project.
Educational programs - these programs will bring information to the west Southern Pines community that will enhance their lives financially, historically and culturally. In 2023, splht brought a traveling historical exhibit to the wsp center campus.
