Program areas at Southern California Psychiatric Society

Continuing education is offered to all members. Scps presented its annual advances in psychiatry conference (to replace the annual psychopharmacology update) as a virtual event and provided 3 hours continuing medical education credits. In september, scps presented a meeting on the mental health needs of. In november, along with an affiliated Psychiatric organization, we held a meeting about the California department of managed healthcare.
REGIONS, COMMITTEES AND THE COUNCIL MEET EACH MONTH TO DEVELOP NEW POLICIES AND/OR IMPROVE EXISTING PROGRAMS. THE ETHICS COMMITTEE RECEIVED NO ALLEGATIONS OF ETHICAL MISCONDUCT. THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE COORDINATES ALL CME EVENTS. THE NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE EDITED 11 ISSUES OF THE NEWSLETTER. THE FELLOWSHIP AND AWARDS COMMITTEE BESTOWED AWARDS TO SEVERAL LOCAL PSYCHIATRISTS AND PROGRAMS WORKING TOWARDS BETTERING THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. AWARDS WERE BESTOWED VIRTUALLY. THE WEBSITE COMMITTEE IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING TIMELY AND CONSISTENT UPDATES AND MAINTENANCE. THE WEBSITE COMMITTEE IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR RECOMMENDING WEBSITE POLICIES TO COUNCIL. THE PUBLIC PORTION OF THE DIRECTORY HAS PROVEN TO BE A HIGH-TRAFFIC PAGE OF OUR WEBSITE. THE DISASTER RELIEF COMMITTEE WHICH PARTICIPATES ON THE CALIFORNIA DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH COALITON, WAS EXTREMELY BUSY DURING 2022; HELPING MEMBERS LEARN HOW THEY COULD VOLUNTEER TO HELP FRONT-LINE WORKERS, DEVELOPING PROTOCOLS SO THAT THE ORGANIZATION IS PREPARED FOR DISASTERS, PROVIDING INFORMATION TO MEMBERS AS TO HOW THEY CAN VOLUNTEER AT DISASTERS AND SPONSORING A MEETING FOR THE MEMBERSHIP ON THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF FIREFIGHTERS. DURING 2022 THE DIVERSITY AND CULTURE COMMITTEE COMPLETED ITS 9 EPISODE MINI-DOCUSERIES: CHAMPIONS OF SOCIAL JUSTICE: PSYCHIATRY INMARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES. httpswwwsocalpsychorgdocuseries THE ALTERNATIVE CRISIS RESPONSE COMMITTEE IS WORKING TO MAKE SURE THAT PSYCHIATRY IS INVOLVED IN THE CHANGES DUE TO THE 988 LEGISLATION AND TO HELP WITH THIS TRANSITION. TWO NEW COMMITTEES WERE FORMED; THE ACCESS TO CARE COMMITTEE, WHICH IS LOOKING AT HOW PSYCHIATRISTS MAY HELP PATIENTS RECEIVE BETTER ACCESS FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ADDERALL SHORTAGES AND OTHER PHARMACY ISSUES, AND THE PRIVATE PARTICE COMMITTEE WHICH IS LOOKING AT SIMILAR ISSUES AND HOW THEY EFFECT PRIVATE PRCATICE.
The Southern California phychiatrist newsletter is issued eleven times a year, september through july, electronically on its website at www.socalpsych.org. The newsletter is now available for free to the public via the web. The newsletter contains scientific, educational, & research articles, editorials, letters, and council highlights. The newsletter is emailed to all members on the publication date. The newsletter has become more and more robust and has a successful open rate.
