Slingerland Literacy Institute

Teacher training programs are the most significant program activity sponsored by Slingerland Literacy Institute. Training courses are offered for teachers and individuals seeking training in all aspects of Literacy education for students in classrooms or individual tutoring situations. Courses vary in length from 19 days for the comprehensive courses, to 10 hour short courses to inservice activities for schools. Over 141 people were benefited.

Professional development for Slingerland Literacy Institute training staff. Each year the organization provides a training weekend for all of the directors of teacher training programs in the organization. The weekend includes work with the faculty senate concerning the professional materials and meetings for the trainers to provide information on new courses, specific training requirements, certification guidelines and new research in the field. 45 people were benefited.

The sale of training materials is an activity that supports the training programs for Slingerland Literacy Institute. Materials include textbooks, classroom teacher materials and student materials, activity books and teacher support materials for work with students. Over 500 people were benefited.
