Program areas at Resource Recovery Project
Our Resource Center offers 3 programs: "Putting Kids First" - provides a wide range of surplus materials (household and industrial disposables) used for creative learning and experimentation; for educational teaching aids that reinforce lanquage, art Science and math skills, for developing fine and gross motor skills and for manipulative skill-building for developmentally challenged children and adults Our clientele consists of more than 223,000 educators who work with low-income, at risk and special needs youth, traditional educators, home-school groups, Parents’ as Teacher groups, early childhood instructors, scout leaders, church leaders, occupational and physical therapists and individuals in MO, IL and surrounding states. an “Gift Boutique" - an outlet to reuse the resources donated to the organization that are more "gift oriented” and not necessarily applicable educational purposes “Book Exchange” - provides new and used reading material for both adults and children alike on a purchase/exchange basis In July 2016, the building housing our facility was sold very abruptly and all tenants were forced to relocate. Our Resource and Learning Center was closed for four months while seeking a new facility. Our Learning Center (Leftover's Lights Up Learning) - provided 7 programs in the 8 operational months: "C.A.R-E.E.R. Academy" year-round enrichment workshops and volunteer opportunities for the families through our partnership with the Pujols Family Foundation and our association with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis providing 502 art-related activities to more than 726 children and adults. “Scouting Learn and Earn” workshops were greatly curtailed because of the site closure. "St. Charles Academy of of the Arts" - adult and child Diy, Creative Art (Trash to Art), visual and performing art activities. "Rehabilitative Program for Developmentally Challenged" - 1,336+ hours of developmental activities that include in-house and outreach technical assistance in the methodology to increase eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, increased lung capacity and motor skills (stretching, pulling cutting, etc.) through the use of scrap material. “School Field Trips” - in-house and outreach services for the elementary, middle high school and coltege-level students and teachers, Parents as Teacher's groups, Head Start/Early Head Start, day-care providers and centers for developmentally challenged. In 2016, all activities were greatly curtailed due to the sudden relocation search and re-establishment of services in a new facility
