Program areas at Raise a Child of the Carolinas
Afterschool: as school districts returned to in person learning, the racc afterschool academy, in collaboration with sugar creek charter school, A title i school serving 100% minority students 94% with are from economically disadvantaged households, was created and served almost 200 kindergarten through eighth grade students experiencing learning loss as A result of the pandemic. the program provided high quality tutoring support and innovative enrichment activities in science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and math to reduce the learning gap and achieve equality in education. Participating students experienced semi-traditional return to in person offering in A safe socially distanced, covid compliant environment. In addition to progressing academically, children received positive mentorship, build on friendships, improved social emotional and mental health, strenghten physical fitness, and explored arts and crafts. Aviation exploration, financial literacy, and digital literacy to name A few. the program was staffed by certified teachers and paraprofessionals and supported by volunteers. Participating students received free nutritious meals for dinner and snack.
Summer camp: in collaboration with sugar creek charter school and umba bright stars, the racc hosted camp can be, A summer camp for 105 kindergarten through eighth grade students. A half-day program was offered for 85 kindergarten through eighth grade students who were retained and had to attend summer school at sugar creek charter. 20 first through fifth grade racc students attended A full day camp at umba bright stars. 100% of participating students are minorities, and both locations provided A safe, socially distanced environment that adheared to strict cdc compliances and had no reported covid-19 cases. the educational activities provided focused on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, math, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, college and career readiness, and health and wellness. Participating students forged new friendships, learned new skills, and maintained positive social, emotional, and mental well-being. In addition, free nutritious meals were served for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between meals. Weekly field trips were provided and each visited location aligned with the topics and lessons learned during class. the camp follows the american camping associations guidelines in ensuring the vital components in the development and education of A Child are offered.
