Program areas at Portland Chinatown History Foundation
Operating the museum - in 2022 we returned to opening the museum full-time and continued both online and in-person programming to maximize our reach and impact. We returned to in-person festivals and cultural celebrations, including the ever-important lunar new year dragon dance parade and celebration, as well as Oregon rises above hate and other events of significance and relevance to the asian american and immigrant communities of Oregon. In addition to organizing and opening four exhibitions with accompanying programming, we began work on updating and adding to our popular permanent exhibition of Portland chinatowns, beyond the gate.continued on schedule o.we successfully launched a multi-person artist residency at the museum, which provided engaging artist talks and culminated in the exhibition illuminating time. We also organized and hosted 6 artist talks (with 10 total artists participating), community workshops (including a community envisioning lab with artist lynn yarne), 4 music/theatrical/dance performances, several book signings/readings/launches, and at least 20-30 school tours and group tours. We also participated in 2 academic museum conferences, 6-8 community peacemaking events and at 6-8 community outreach events.these activities supported our mission to collect, preserve and share the stories, oral histories and artifacts of Portland's Chinatown as a catalyst for exploring and interpreting the History of past, present and future immigrant experiences.
