Program areas at Etm-Massachusetts #3
Etm-ma's school partnership program collaborates with boston publicschools (bps) to build high quality and sustainable in-school music programs. We form long-term partnerships with elementary, middle, and high schools within the boston public school system that are located in historically lowincome communities and lack sufficient resources for effective school-widemusic education. Etm-ma collaborates closely with each partner school principal, creating a multi-year plan for each school to drive success and meet schools' unique needs and populations. All of our services are completely free to students, their families, and teachers.our school partnership program includes creating new music programs forschools, providing coaching and program development services, building amusic teacher pipeline for bps, and music teacher training and professionaldevelopment.with our new music program school partners, we hire and pay for the musicteacher, purchase all the instruments the school needs, help create a musiceducation curricula, and train the music teacher to get them teacher certified and ready to be hired by the school and the boston teacher union. With our coaching and program development school partners we work to strengthen existing music programs. We provide services including making the music program accessible to more students, principal and teacher coaching, fundraising support, community engagement, and program evaluation.etm-ma is unique in that we are the only nonprofit music organizationworking in the greater boston area to help bps create union music teacherpositions and support teachers as they work to get state licensure as a corecomponent of our overall work. As a part of our school partnership program,we are working to create a music teacher pipeline for boston public schoolsand provide professional development opportunities for teachers to help close the gap on the music teacher shortage.we don't want to be the solution, we want to be a part of it. We customize our services depending on the needs and goals of the music program and ourpartner school. One of our primary goals is to ensure access and benefits ofhigh-quality and sequential music education to all underserved bps students.we do this, in part, by ensuring the music programs we create for schools are well-integrated into the culture of the school and sustainable, and bysupporting teachers in their professional development and providing schooladministrators training on what effective music education looks like. Werecognize that there is no one size fits all model for all schools and personally work with each school to meet its unique needs. We are committed to work with our partner schools in any way needed in order to create successful music education programs for the long term.
