Program areas at Missouri Chiropractic Physicians Association

Education through Seminars and Annual ConventionThe education provided by the MCPA accomplishes at least three goals. First, the seminars and convention help the chiropractors achieve the 48 hours of continuing education required bi-annually to maintain their chiropractic license in Missouri. Second, specific seminars help the chiropractors and their assistants file accurate reports and documentation required by the insurance industry when reporting patient services and care. Third, meetings and seminars also educate the chiropractors on the issues important to their profession and how the MCPA is involved to help advance their profession.Annual Convention: The MCPA Convention has three days of classes and meetings with a Board of Directors meeting held the last day after classes are completed. The 2021 convention hosted approximately 230 chiropractors and their assistants. There were an unknown number of suppliers in attendance. The total income from the 2021 Annual Convention = $34,815 and the total expense was $54,477.58 (Schedule C).The MCPA offered 36 hours of continuing education for the chiropractors, along with 8 hours of classes for their assistants and office. A general membership meeting was held to update the doctors on the issues critical to their profession and how the MCPA was working to advance their profession.District and State Seminars: The MCPA held 5 seminars during 2021. Approximately 500 Chiropractic Physicians and assistants attended these seminars. The total income from the seminars was $72,040.00; and the total expense was $48,105.51 (Schedule D). Most of these seminars provided from 24 to 36 hours of continuing education credits for the doctors. Board Meetings: The MCPA held four (4) board meetings for the state Board of Directors, while the districts held an unknown number of meetings. Some of the meetings featured a guest speaker on key topics for the profession. All meetings updated the doctors on issues critical to their profession and promoted discussion on how the MCPA would work to advance the profession. The total income from these meetings was $0.00; and the total expense was $1,426.02 (Schedule D).
Information Services to Educate the Members and the General PublicThe MCPA provides information services to its membership and the general public through publications, direct mail campaigns, email newsletters and alerts, webpage information and trade shows.Publications: The MCPA produces a journal, The Missouri Chiropractor, (four issues per year) which is distributed to all Missouri chiropractors. It features articles and case studies related to chiropractic as well as current updates on issues which impact the profession. The income associated with the MCPAs publications from print ad and classified ad sales was $3,982.00 for 2021. The expenditures for 2021 totaled $6,398.68 for postage and $8,542.57 for printing. The MCPA self-publishes the Journal.Email Newsletters and Alerts: The MCPA produces an email newsletter, MCPA Monthly, 12 times per year to all chiropractors in its email database as events and issues call for the dissemination of information. The newsletter includes special event announcements, member benefit information, legislative and insurance updates, a calendar of events, list of officers, links to classified ads, etc. Email alerts are special messages of a more urgent or critical nature, sometimes intended to solicit a response from the chiropractors. Alerts have been used to indicate legislative action, a change in insurance policy or filing requirements, or changes in state chiropractic relicensing requirements. The alerts are sent to the same recipients as the MCPA newsletters. There is no expenditure for email newsletters and alerts.Website: The MCPA website, www.mcpachiro.org, reaches out to members, non-members, chiropractic patients, suppliers, legislators and the general public. The website is the MCPAs largest presentation of information. It is the MCPAs most complete resource for its audiences and includes information on insurance and Medicare, legislation and political action, legal issues, licensing, continuing education, membership benefits, and auxiliary activities. It also has links to other important state and national websites. The site contains a separate patient side which includes a large Find a Doctor section for patient referral. The income associated with the MCPAs website was $0.00 for 2021. The expenses were $137.01. The main MCPA website is managed by MemberClicks.Advertising & Promotion: During 2021, the MCPA did not engage in any major advertising campaigns directed to the general public. Its main promotional efforts were directed toward promoting its own membership (benefits) and seminars (educational opportunities) to chiropractors and developing partnerships (sponsorships) with suppliers through the avenues listed above (Section 3).
Lobbying Activities to Support the Legislative Interests of the MembersLobbying: MCPA contracted a lobbyist consultant, Lynne Schlosser, and paid her $27,000.00. (Schedule B). Their duties on behalf of the association and its members include monitoring and impacting public policy with emphasis on legislation, regulations and appropriation by acting as lobbyist and spokesperson to the Missouri General Assembly, the Executive Branch and related state agencies. She directs and coordinates the grassroots lobbying efforts of the members of MCPA. The amount of dues income deemed non-deductible on the 2021 dues notices was 60 percent; the deductible portion was 40 percent.Missouri Chiropractic Political Action Committee (MC PAC)The purpose of the MC PAC, as stated in their by-laws, is to advance the goals and purpose of the Chiropractic Profession through involvement in the political process. To fulfill this purpose it participates in fundraising activities in an effort to raise money so that donations can be made on its behalf to candidates for state elective office. This includes candidates for state representative, senate and statewide offices. Donations are also made to House and Senate political committees for distribution to candidates.
