Program areas at Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative

Mayors of the Mississippi River Cities & Towns (mrcti) our association of united states mayors along the entire length of the Mississippi River is unique in that we push to improve our whole region, in part, by bringing resources home to our individual Cities. In 2023 and 2024, mrcti and partners have secured $22 million in jobs act and ira funding benefiting 5 Cities in 3 states. Also, in 2023, mrcti completed the first-ever signed agreement between the Cities of the Mississippi River and the three first nations of the headwaters region ushering-in a new phase of collaboration and cooperation between u.s. Mayors and native american leaders of middle america. Mrcti signed a new agreement of collaboration and common purpose with the River Cities of the republic of india. Mrcti mayors worked to elevate and support senator john boozman of Arkansas becoming the new co-chair of the Mississippi River caucus. Finally, mrcti mayors unanimously voted to pursue in formal arrangement a Mississippi River compact that will protect the fresh water resources of the Mississippi River for generations.
