Program areas at Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute
The treatment clinic has twin goals of candidate education and community service. It offers reduced-fee psychoanalysis and psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and children in the metro detroit and ann arbor areas. Lower fee psychoanalysis is provided by candidates who are supervised by mpi faculty.
Library - the Institute's collection of over 1500 books and many journals is a resource for reference and scholarship on Psychoanalytic topics. The collection is available for circulation to mpi, mps and apt members; mpi candidates, and students who are currently enrolled in the Institute's adult Psychoanalytic psychotherapy program or child development and clinical issues program; and for reference to interested practitioners and scholars.
The continuing education division provides consultation and education to the community. The psychotherapy educational programs and seminar series offer rich opportunities to study a wide range of subjects from a Psychoanalytic perspective. Courses and programs are tailored to fit the various interests and professional needs of participants who come with a variety of backgrounds, levels of experience and educational goals. Courses are offered at the mpi offices in farmington hills and ann arbor that can also be made available to mental health professionals at their place of employment or other venue. These individualized courses are developed for groups of six or more participants. The background and interests of the group members will determine the content as well as the format of the class. The continuing education division offers a two-year adult Psychoanalytic psychotherapy program designed for mental health professionals, as well as a new modular child development and clincial issues program designed for professionals and academics whose work involves children, adolescents and families. Two one-year Psychoanalytic psychotherapy fellowship programs are also being offered: one in farmington hills and one in ann arbor.
