Having applied for public charity status in 1999 and been granted that status by the IRS in 2004, MERLIN USA established a physical office and presence in the District of Columbia in August 2008. During the 2008 and 2009, the organization began laying the groundwork for its future work. During 2011-2012, MERLIN USA significantly expanded its capacities to carry out its mission for fundraising, and building larger and wider spread networks, for further long term funding in the most cost-effective manner possible.MERLIN USA's exempt purpose achievements fall under one program, and that program has one main component - to raise private funds for MERLIN's programs around the world. To raise income, MERLIN USA aims to raise awareness through educating of the US general public, educate the US philanthropic community and promote dialogue with policy makers about global health issues. Through this fuller understanding, MERLIN USA hopes to gain further financial, long term support.
