Program areas at Massachusetts Animal Coalition

The License Plate Program grants funds received from sales of the "I'm Animal Friendly" license plate to non-profit humane organizations and municipal animal control agencies in the Commonwealth that provide spaying and neutering services for cats, dogs and rabbits. MAC awarded $185,000 in license plate funds to MA organizations in June 2023. Since the programs inception in 2004, over $3 million dollars has been granted, enabling tens of thousands of animals to receive services that both improve their health and reduce the population of unwanted pets.
The AniMatch program assists in the transfer of animals from animal welfare organizations with limited resources to those within the state that have a better ability to find the pets a "forever" home. Over 3,281 dogs and 280 cats have been assisted since the program's inception.
MAC runs Educational Conferences (aka "MAC meetings"), bringing in local regional and national speakers on topics of interest in animal welfare. Standing conferences include Whole Cat Workshop and All About Dogs (both typically held in the Spring), and a Hot Topics session in autumn. These sessions are not only educational; they enable networking amongst the participants, and are integral to MAC's mission to create forums for dialogue and strategic collaboration to reduce the number of homeless, neglected, displaced and abused companion animals. During the pandemic, Zoom was used to hold meetings. MAC hosted its first post-pandemic in person meeting in June 2023.
Pets in Cars Program assists Animal Control Officers in educating the public about the dangers of pets being left in motor vehicles that get very hot or very cold inside due to extreme weather conditions.
