To improve the lives of people facing social and economic hardship by engaging the legal community in pro bono service to homeless and low-income clients and nonprofit organizations in need serving the same populations. Lawyers Clearinghouse improves the lives of people facing social and economic hardship by engaging the legal community in pro bono service to nonprofit organizations and their homeless and low-income clients. To connect pro bono Lawyers with nonprofits, and people in need to promote access to justice, strengthen communities, and end Homelessness.

Program areas at Lawyers Clearinghouse on Affordable Housing and Homelessness

A total of 398 volunteers assisted the organization in hosting legal workshops and providing resources for nonprofits, matching 84 nonprofit organizations with attorneys providing pro bono full representation assistance and 46 nonprofits with attorneys providing on-site representation on matters with finite scope through 6 clinic-style consultation programs; providing in-house brief counsel to 75 clients; and running 20 legal workshops for nonprofits with 808 attendees. 14 of 34 partners have reported 1267 hours of service valued at $896,064. The Clearinghouse matches "access to justice fellows" - senior and retired attorneys - to nonprofit organizations, courts, and public service entities in Massachusetts focused on increasing access to justice for persons in the commonwealth. Sixteen fellows were engaged including 3 retired judges, providing legal services and expertise for an average of 10 hours per week for 9 months at 13 partner organizations.
