Emergency Shelter for Battered Women - This program assists victims of domestic violence and the community in coping with these crimes; to help medical personnel in delivery of health care needed by the victims; to provide counseling toward healing the emotional trauma experienced; to provide a safe environment to victims of domestic violence; and to educate the general public on domestic violence and its prevention. The agency served 1,483 outreach clients and 76 shelter residents. This included counseling, shelter, food, clothing, financial aid, support groups, and legal advocacy. 212 children participated in children's activities including afterschool tutoring, field trips, basic computer training and age-appropriate programs. Shelter residents and victims were housed in hotels for 3,156 bed nights due to a lack of shelter space. 22,995 meals were prepared and served in-house. Agency personnel made 2 Community Presentations; obtained 72 Temporary Protective Orders; The shelter increased services while a funding decrease caused the shelter to have one less full-time advocate.
