Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington

Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington & Idaho provides legal assistance to the indigent in federal trial courts and courts of appeal and provides educational programs for law students and qualified attorneys in order to advance the administration of criminal justice. 1,060 clients were served in the year ended September 30, 2022. As part of the Organization's educational programs for law students, internships are provided in a cooperative education program with colleges acting as a host in this arrangement by providing a work-related legal educational experience. The Organization averages 3 interns during the school-year with up to 4 interns during the summer months. There are no out of pocket expenses for this program.

The Organization is active in training the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel members in Eastern Washington and North Idaho which is administered by the respective U.S. District Courts and totaled 42 members for Eastern Washington and 8 members for North Idaho. No monthly meetings were held due to COVID. We did not resume trainings until October 2022 (new fiscal year).
