Program areas at Education for Leadership

The teaching through technologies (t3) alliance provides a replicable, adaptable, and scalable curriculum with a comprehensive support mechanism that can be widely adapted to increase the stem engagement of high school students. The project focuses on emerging technological areas related to codeable digital devices (raspberry pi), 3d printing, and autonomous systems (land, air, water) instruction. Robust instructor support and communication promotes the 1) exchange of current activities and ideas across sites; 2) collaboration on problem-solving challenges; 3) discover stem fields and career paths; 4) instructor training and support; 5) two- way communication with stem career professionals. The t3 pillars include 1) a growth mindset, 2) stem technology, and 3) community engagement.
The university of Alaska Hawaii - maui upward bound program has adapted the t3 alliance philosophy to increase the stem engagement of high school students, encouraging them to pursue careers in stem. This year's focus was through mostly virtual robust instructor support and communication using makerspace equipment set up in maui and hilo. Maui hosted a virtual steam fest for students in Alaska and Hawaii that included stem in programming, autonomous vehicles, digital communication and culinary arts.
The support for the hydaburg city schools consisted primarily of t3 alliance training, teacher in-service and ongoing support. Educating for Leadership provided training, support and supplies to a variety of k12, trio, university and community-based projects. The t3 alliance was the collaborative tie for each of these programs, supporting students through teaching their instructors how to successfully implement a competency-based instruction to engage students; teaching through technology. The high accountability of showing the learning by the student to the community provided evidence of work performed and progress made.
