Description
Farm to School - Teaching agro-ecology and permaculture farming through the building of school gardens at no cost to the schools. In 2017 we brought our program to four middle or high schools in two low-income school districts. To build school gardens and promote the joy of growing, harvesting, preparing, and eating simple whole foods. Educate consumers in urban food growing techniques.

Program areas at Eco Urban Gardens

Weekend volunteer workshops held at the Farm Lab gardens included activities such as: a) planting a lavender knoll, b) sheet mulching, c) installing a green wall, d) weeding, seeding, planting veggies, pruning shrubs, trail restoration, in-ground bed plant cultivation, orchard care, harvesting herbs, fruits, and veggies, e) harvesting edible flowers used for pantry and school cafeteria. Workshops also taught volunteers skills like seeding, transplanting, invasive species removal, organic pest control, water capture for low water gardens and and composting. Each workshop or volunteer day hosts between 25-65 people depending on the event. Also weekend workshops open to all ages
