Program areas at Deaf Can
Deaf Can receives a grant from Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division under Minnesota Department of Human Services to provide Sober housing and support services to person who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and recovering from substance use disorders The program model aims to help the client maintain stabilization of biological, psychological and social functioning in the community; promote a positive and healthy lifestyle; and solidify the gains accomplished in treatment. The design of the project is to find safe and sober supportive housing in the community and hire qualified Sober Coaches to provide housing support services to deaf adults years or older who have completed primary treatment from the Minnesota Chemical Dependency Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals (MCDPDHH)). $126,000 annua! fiscal year grant is used for facility, equipment, and staffing costs. Sober Coaches provide instruction covering communication skills, community resource utilization skills, relapse prevention skills, emmployment Skills, health management and basic living Skis. acct cece ence eeee nn eenne cence enna Qutcome measures reported to the state will focus on housing stability, increased skills or income; and greater self-determination
Deaf Can provides Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) for people with disabilities and those ages 65 and older. This Program is licensed by Minnesota Department of Human Services under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245D passed by the Minnesota Legislature. We are eligible to provide services statewide that include: Independent Living Skills (LS) waining Homemaker (Tier 1) services, and Adult Companion services. Funding to pay for services is arranged by the individual's county social worker who develops a service agreement that details what type and how much services is needed for that person.
