Program areas at California Association of Recreation and Park Districts
Train and educate our members (administrators, board members and staff) regarding governance, legal issues, funding opportunities, risk management, safety, and other issues. This is accomplished through our annual conference and other training opportunities throughout the year. This is about 40% of our time.
Conduct board of directors meetings and general membership meetings to conduct quarterly business to approve issuance of checks, approve governance issues and update the board of directors and general membership on the important issues affecting Recreation and Park Districts. This accounts for about 15% of our time.
Advocate and provide support stable service funding sources for Recreation and Park Districts and provide for our members legislative interaction. This is accomplished by contracting with a lobbyist to promote the interests of Recreation and Park Districts. Also, accomplished by providing opportunities to get to legislators, newsletters providing updates of legislative issues and establishing a roster of legislators. This is about 30% of our time.
Provide networking and communication to our members regarding issues that affect Recreation and Park Districts which include newsletters, correspondence, email, broadcasts and training with our members. This accounts for about 15% of our time. Additionally, to develop and maintain relationships with other Recreation and Park associations/agencies by attending meetings, conferences and special events.
