Grants to area schools. CJ Sullivan elementary school received $500.00 in grant funding for the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program, awarding students for exhibiting behavior and character traits such as kindness, integrity, self-discipline, citizenship, and task completions. Sacred Heart School received $500.00 in grant funding for the purchase of student snow shoes for outdoor winter physical education and science classes. Baraga High School Physics Class received $500.00 in grant funding for a Physics Lab field trip that included calculating the laws of kinetics, mechanical energy, etc. at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and the Fermi Lab in Batavia. Arvon Township School received $500.00 in grant funding for the purchase of yoga and gym equipment to increase participation in indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
To develop youth for leadership by increasing their capacity for participation in society by providing them with education and resources to target the needs of the youth in their community, through the the development of power point presentations and through the selection and engagement of school assembly speakers targeting immediate area youth needs such as substance abuse, suicide prevention, anti-bullying education, encouragement and self-esteem, etc.
Scholarship Awards for Higher Education. The Ina McClintock Been & Olof Been Scholarship, established for graduating students of Baraga County High Schools entering a two or four year degree granting program at an institute of higher learning, and entering study inf the fields of mathematics or physics. The student must hold a 3.5 GPA or higher upon graduating from High School. Kayla Kujansuu was awarded the scholarship for the study of Accounting at Grand Valley State University.
