Program areas at American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Osu Student Branch

Osu aiaa has several different programs, all designed to help foster the love of aerospace in students. The first and foremost program is the organization's competitive and research teams that do their work on a collegiate level. In the year of 2019, Osu aiaa sponsored 21 different teams between the two academic school years included in 2019, including 13 different rocketry teams, 2 plane teams, 2 unmanned aerial vehicle (uav) teams, 1 payload team, and 2 jet propulsion research teams. Within these teams, students from all majors and grade levels learn how to design and build rockets, planes, uavs, or payloads, or learn how to optimize jet engines, to make safe and reliable systems.
The third program that Osu aiaa has is science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) engagement, in which the organization engages k - 12 students from all over the state of Oregon in stem-related topics. Osu aiaa, primarily through one of the rocketry teams, does this by reaching out to entities such as schools and museums, and then bringing an appropriate number of lessons to the school, museum, or other location that an educational event is taking place, and then engages the students in hands-on projects including, but not limited to, building and launching small model rockets to understand the fundamentals of rocketry, building direct current motors to understand the fundamentals of the physics of electricity and magnetism, and making slime to understand the fundamentals of chemistry
The second program is the organization's program to help students further their professional interests and careers. The organization does this in several ways. First, the organization invites industry professionals to present to the members of the organization on topics ranging from designing lunar landers and the future of the new space force to what it's like to be a systems engineer for nasa and the history of women in aerospace in order to expand the horizons of Osu aiaa's members, and help them find an area within the field of aerospace in which they are interested. Second, the organization works to bring students to the aerospace industry by setting up tours of places such as blue origins' facilities in Washington, or spacex's facilities in California, as well as tours of places such as the evergreen air and space museum in mcminnville, or, in order to help students have a better understanding of what the aerospace industry looks like in-person, and help them further develop an idea of where they would like to be within the field. Third, the organization assists with the professional development of the members by hosting seminars to assist with filling out aerospace internship applications to give members the best chance to get the internships that can help launch them into a full-time career.
