Ro&t was organized with a goal to meet community development needs of low-to-moderate income families in Shreveport-bossier, Louisiana. The mission is to provide quality care efficiently and effectively for the individuals and families served regardless of their ability to pay. The organization expanded its services in 2012 to include transportation for disabled patients who seeks transportation to and from intensive outpatient service. Due to high demand reach out and touch will seek funding to purchase wheelchair accessible vans thru the department of transportation. Reach out and touch transport 45 patients each day to intensive outpatient services. In 2011, the organization expanded its services to include a free pilot afterschool program. Program participants receive a snack upon starting the program, have two hours of instruction and recreation divided between literacy and numeracy remediation, homework assistance on any subject, and a menu of enrichment activities to include nutrition and character education. Emphasis is placed on homework, reading, and math. Activities and additional time is given to remediation and instruction in large and small group interactions. The program expanded to include tutoring during the summer. Reach out and touch's inaugural program is the USDA summer food service program. Since 2010, the program has addressed the hunger issues of at-risk children and successfully provided free nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) to over 1,700 children during the summer, ages up to 18 years, at (13) locations throughout the area : 7 Shreveport parks and recreation centers in Shreveport, 1 community park in bossier and 2 community church in Shreveport, and 3 rural sites located out of the Shreveport bossier area. During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the school breakfast and national school lunch programs. This program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need.
