The oacbha foundation is a statewide provider of educational programs and advocacy for quality cost effective treatment and prevention services. The oacbha foundation shall provide leadership and advocacy to promote public policies, cost effective treatment and initiatives that support the administration and delivery of local mental health and alcohol and other drug-addiction services. Mental health first aid is an 8 hour training that teaches individuals on how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing crisis. The oacbha foundation hosted two instructor certification trainings which guides candidates through the 5-day training with an emphasis on coaching and preparing candidates to be ambassadors of MHFA. Conferences/trainings: providing educational opportunities on a myriad of topics, including but not limited to, behavioral health and Medicaid redesign, Ohio's opiate epidemic, recovery-oriented systems of care, and recovery. The oacbha foundation held six regional trainings on behavioral health Medicaid redesign training 1200 individuals, and an annual conference addressing the opiate epidemic in Ohio with 1,100 professionals in attendance. The oacbha foundation also hosted the first conference for individuals in recovery to gain life experience and information on how to access and navigate the resources available. Awareness/anti-stigma advocacy: recovery is beautiful is all about placing the needs of individuals and families requiring addiction and/or mental health programming first and foremost. In order to achieve this, recovery is beautiful has three major components: 1) changing the conversation that mental health and addiction are diseases 2) moving Ohio's community mental health and addiction system to a recovery-oriented system of care (rosc) 3) eliminating stigma and barriers to access treatment, recovery and support services.
