Program areas at Youth Incorporated

Camp - program services: since 1945, Youth Incorporated has operated a traditional overnight summer camp for boys and girls on 175 acres of land adjacent to percy priest lake, rutherford county, Tennessee. The land was donated by mr. allen dobson, a middle Tennessee business executive and a principal founder of the organization, who also bequeathed a separate trust fund that provides continuing annual financial support for the organization.campers participate in a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, canoeing, climbing tower, horseback riding, ropes courses, swimming, water skiing, outdoor living skills, and night time activities. Campers have the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, rekindle prior friendships, enjoy the outdoors, and exist in a community atmosphere unplugged from their normal routines.as a result of the global health pandemic (covid-19) and related restrictions placed on group activities by state and federal authorities, substantially all camp activities were suspended during fiscal years 2019 and 2020 (september 1, 2019 through august 31, 2021). During fiscal year 2021, the camp's leadership team and staff members were initially focused on completing repairs and maintenance of the camp's physical facilities to prepare for reopening and resuming normal operations and services. The number of participating campers in fiscal year 2021 was approximately 90% of the pre-covid level of participants, which was deemed very favorable as the general public continued to emerge from pandemic restrictions.over the years, the camp has expanded its program services to offer single and multi-day camp activities, as well as various group sports and recreational activities. These programs assist campers to develop interpersonal communication and team leadership skills through interacting with other campers of diverse backgrounds, while increasing individual self confidence, decision making ability, and overall respect for others. A key objective of these programs is to enhance the camper's knowledge and appreciation of nature and the outdoor environment. Exposing campers to new tasks, challenges, and objectives in an often unfamiliar environment allows Youth Incorporated to achieve its mission of "building leaders for tomorrow". Camp participation fees are based on overnight vs. day camp programs, as well as the extent of camp activities and services that are provided to the respective group of campers. The overall goal is for participation fees to be affordable to persons from all socio-economic backgrounds and to use public financial support to subsidize the cost of the program services.
Hockey - program services: Youth Incorporated offers young persons the opportunity to participate in two usa inline hockey leagues that skate at the hockey rinks it maintains in the cities of bellevue and lavergne, Tennessee, suburbs of the greater nashville-metropolitan area. The spring season runs from march to may, and the fall season runs from september to november.the hockey program focuses on teaching sportsmanship and athletic skills in a team environment. In addition, league teams compete for the opportunity to participate in travel tournaments and represent their local communities. The nashville predators, our local national hockey league team, routinely provides financial support to the hockey program and discounted tickets to program participants so they can attend nashville predators hockey games.hockey participation fees are based on two age classes: age 8 and under; and age 9 and above. Youths between the ages of 6 and 8 that are new to the sport can participate in the hockey program for free. The overall goal is for participation fees to be affordable to persons from all socio-economic backgrounds and to use public financial support to subsidize the cost of the program services offered by Youth Incorporated.
