Program areas at Young Dance
Young Dance resumed in person programming, including Dance Together, Creative Movement (Levels 1-2), Modern (Levels 1-5), Ballet (Levels 1-2), Hip Hop (Levels 1-2), Breaking, Let's Get Movin', and All Abilities Dancing (Levels 1-2). We offered 23 classes and 1 online class for the 2021-22 school year, serving 129 students. Our season culminated with a performance of each class in May.
All Abilities Dancing - Though individuals with disabilities are welcomed into any of our classes and programs, Young Dance also offers specific classes and programs geared towards individuals with disabilities. 16 individuals participated in our ongoing All Abilities Dancing classes, Sep-May. The All Abilities Dancing 2 class created work for the Off Kilter Cabaret, in the summer of 2022.
Young Dance Company - 14 dancers participated in the Young Dance Company, under the direction of Anat Shinar and Gretchen Pick in the 2021-22 season. Two guest artists created dances for the company in addition to Shinar and Pick. At an outdoor performance in May 2022, the company performed the work created by the professional artists as well as work created by the company members themselves. The company also performed at the Walker Art Center.
Community Partnership - Young Dance resumed Community Partnerships. We offered extended programs (lasting multiple weeks) with Great River School. Ramsey County Juvenile Corrections, Richard Green Central Community School, and Lake Nokomis Community School. We did short term residencies (lasting 1 week or less) with Anoka Middle School for the Arts, and Cherokee Heights Elementary School. Our Community Partnerships served 474 students.
