Program areas at YMCA of Montclair NEW JERSEY
Part III - 4A. Youth Development - Child Care The YMCA of Montclair offers camps for children and teens ages 3 to 14. Our camps, like many Y programs, provide opportunities for campers to learn new skills, develop character and make new friends as they engage in physical, social, and educational activities. Our camps teach self-reliance and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership, In 2022 the YMCA of Montclair hosted 3 summer camps serving almost 1,500 youth per week in the summer months. As part of our mission to ensure that everyone can afford to attend camp, regardless of their financial circumstances, we provided financial assistance for all camp programs and sessions.
Part III - 4C. Social Responsibility - In addition to our SACC programs, youth development, and healthy living programs, the YMCA of Montclair continues to make an impact on youth, families, and adults outside the walls of the Y through various initiatives like Mental Health First Aid Training, 7th Grade Initiative, Leaders Club, Chronic Disease Programs, Safety Around Water Classes, Backpack Drive, Holiday Giving Tree, Blood Drives, Volunteer and Internship opportunities, and the Montclair Run. We are proud to collaborate with dozens of local organizations to serve our community. Our Volunteer program continued to grow in 2022, and over 200 volunteers helped support the Y's mission, logging over 3,500 volunteer hours. We hosted engaging programming, free and open to the public throughout the year, including Healthy Kid's Day, Fall Fest at Camp at the Lake, Welcoming Week, Veteran's Day and more. We are proud to continue making a positive impact in our communities.
Part III - 4B. Healthy Living - The YMCA of Montclair is a leading voice on health and well-being. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good healthy habits, and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun, and shared interests. As a result, thousands of youths, adults, and families receive the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve better health and well-being for their spirit, mind, and body through a wide array of our programs: The Y provides several chronic disease prevention programs to the community, including a diabetes prevention program, diabetes exercise program, blood pressure self-monitoring program, and more. Many of these programs are open to all members of the community and are offered at no cost. The Y's Aquatics program provided swim lessons to 4,114 children and adults in 2022. The Ys youth swim team, the Dolphins, had 182 swimmers participate in 2022. Additionally, the Y provided lifeguard training, swim instructor training, and other safety training for 330 individuals who not only work at our Y but throughout our community to help increase water safety in the region. As with all our other programs, financial assistance is available to those in need.
