Program areas at Yew Mountain Center
Appalachian non-timber forest product education and economic development: The Yew Mountain Center is a destination to learn about forest farming and the value of Appalachian non timber forest products including native plants, mushrooms, tree saps, and honeybees. YMC provides education about ecology, cultural importance, economic value, and conservation of nontimber forest products and provides technical support to encourage the cultivation of native medicinal and edible plants in the forest. Approx. 100 served in person, 2500 served remote outreach.
Youth experiential education. Field trips and an outdoors focused middle school bring experiential learning opportunities to local youth. Approx 120 served.
The Yew Mountain Center offers workshops, nature retreats, and special events based on Appalachian ecology, arts, and culture. Approx. 300 served.
