Wray Rehabilitation and Activities Center, Inc.Statement of Program Service AccomplishmentsFootnote IDecember 31, 2022The Wray Rehabilitation and Activities Center, Inc. (WRAC) recorded 768 members at year-end 2022. The WRACs total usage in 2022 averaged 3,792 uses per month including classes, programs, physical therapy, massage therapy, fundraising and special events, meeting room rentals and member/facility users. Members and daily users participated in health and wellness, education, fitness, and physical rehabilitation services. 2022 saw many of our members returning once again, it is nice to see our numbers climbing back up and staying pretty consistent, even through the winter months. Our daily users average about 179 per month, as we are starting to see more of our regular daily users sign up for memberships to take advantage of the savings. We also offer a variety of different membership types so there is a membership to meet everyones lifestyle and usage pattern. Our programs and classes were greatly affected during COVID and it has been a struggle getting individuals to participate in group classes. Several of our instructors feel the same and have opted to take a break from instructing classes. Were working hard on replenishing class participation and instructor involvement by helping to educate and alleviate those fears. We have started to try and recruit other individuals in our community to see if they have any desire to instruct a class but living in such a small community poses many challenges in that area. Our partnership with the local Yuma County Extension Office with the Yuma County Health Challenge and the City of Wray Recreation Department for our Tots of Fun Program for children 1 through 4 years; saw the most attendance ever. Due to the high number of participants the WRAC has also partnered with the East Yuma County Historical Society (Wray Museum) to help with the increased numbers and this has made a tremendous difference. Were still partnering with the Wray Community District Hospital Health Fair, which was held in the fall of 2022 and participation was in full force. The WRACs 29,000 felt a little cramped with the number of individuals in attendance. The facility has two full-time meeting rooms; usage on those was about 104 times for over 1,316 uses. The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies and one 4-H Group hold their meetings and numerous activities at the WRAC. We also support and provide rooms for the Push America (Journey of Hope) bicycle team, Illini 4000 bicycle team, the Wracer Canyon Run, and the Swim Team. Although the Wracer Canyon Run, which is sponsored by the local Lions Club was unable to hold a run in 2022, once again, due to the age and number of the current Lions Club members. COVID seems to have had a negative impact on all service organizations, especially in rural areas where numbers were on the lower side to begin with.As far as Senior Programming in 2022, Warm Water AFAP classes, a session of Tai Chi, and Senior Wellness Walkers have seen increased participation and we were able to add an Older Adult Yoga Class to our lineup. FCCLA students who provided breakfast and activities for all of our Senior Walkers resumed their periodic get-togethers. As the year went on they saw an increase in the number of participants as well. In giving back to the community, Nicole Salmans, RN, Wray Community District Hospital, who had donated her time, to provide FREE Blood Pressure Checks for senior citizen once a month at our facility; was still unable to return to her monthly free checks due to staff shortages at the hospital. Besides the physical aspect of what our programs and services offer there is a huge effect on individuals mental and social health that is just as important as their physical health. We are working hard to develop a program that will target mental wellness across multiple age groups, to better serve all health and wellness aspects within the community. We believe that while we have seen some of the long term effects this pandemic has had on us, we have only uncovered the tip of the iceberg and are trying to prepare ourselves for what will come in the future because of it.The WRAC continues to live their mission Providing Opportunities to Improve the Health of Our Community.
