Program areas at Worthington Pools
Swiminc currently operates and maintains outdoor recreational swimming facilities for use by the residents of the City and the School District. These facilities consist of an outdoor complex, which includes: three heated pools, including two slides, diving well, and infant pool; splash pad; picnic shelter; concession stand; surrounding deck and grass area. The outdoor facilities are available for use for a daily admission fee or with a purchase of a summer seasonal pass. Swiminc served over 4,000 members and provided over 10,000 individual admissions this year. By providing outdoor recreational swimming facilities for residents of the City and the School District, Swiminc significantly lessens the burdens of the government for the City, as described in Treas. Reg. 1.501(c)(3)-1(d). Were it not for the recreational swimming facilities provided by Swiminc, the City would face considerable public pressure to build, operate and maintain comparable recreational facilities for use by the residents of the City and School District. A copy of Resolution No. 36-2001, passed on October 9, 2001, acknowledges the significant contributions of Swiminc in lessening the burdens of the City by providing community recreational swimming facilities.
Swiminc has provided instructional programs for residents for over sixty-five years. Participants in these programs need not be season pass holders. By providing instructional programs for residents of the City and the School District, Swiminc is providing an educational benefit to the community, which is a charitable purpose under IRC 501(c)(3). The Lessons Director is responsible for oversight of the instructional program. During the summer months, a broad range of swim lessons is provided by an instructional staff of approximately 30 part-time instructors, who are paid on an hourly basis. During the non-summer months, lessons are offered in the natatorium. These lessons are taught by approximately 15 part-time instructors, who are paid on an hourly basis. Information concerning instructional programs is disseminated in the community through word-of-mouth, social media and the Worthington Pool's website, www.worthingtonpools.com
Swiminc is the home and sponsor of the Worthington Swim Club. The Worthington Swim Club is a competitive swim club, consisting of swimmers within the age range of 5 to 18. The swimmers range in ability from pre-competitive to having achieved national championship time standards. The Worthington Swim Club is sanctioned by USA Swimming, the national governing body for amateur swimming competition in the United States. The Club is active over an indoor "short-course" season, lasting from September to March, and an outdoor "long-course" season, lasting from April to August. The Club trains at the Worthington Pools Complex and competes in USA Swim Club meets during the year.
