Program areas at World Seabird Union
Create and post online global databases of seabirds for use in informed conservation actions. Four databases are currently under compilation. Attended by 565 scientists from 52 nations, the 2nd World Seabird conference was held in cape town, south africa from october 26-30 providing an opportunity for presentation of 411 papers, 189 posters, 21 symposia and 3 workshops dedicated to the use, guidance and ongoing development of the wsu databases.
In order to develop more refined worldwide communications links, wsu supports seabirds.net online, which is dedicated to the facilitation of data sharing and communication among international Seabird scientists. The website serves as the gateway to the Seabird information network. The site host the business workings of the wsu, highlights conservation issues and activities, and posts employment opportunities for young scientists.
Wsu maintains a committee to assist early career scientists, managing an online web conference that allows young scientists mentoring opportunities with established peers.
