Program areas at Woodson Ymca
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: We strongly support the belief that all children deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. We have enhanced long-standing programs and added new ones to meet the needs and desires of our Youth. Youth are the heart and center of our child care, after school care, day camp, youth sports, swim lessons, gymnastics classes, karate, parent/child cooking classes, as well as our swim and gymnastics teams. Scholarships are offered for all of the Youth opportunities, to make sure that every child has a chance to participate, no matter what their family's economic status is. The Woodson YMCA is proud to serve our community as the largest child care provider in our area. We helped to ensure families were able to afford child care by providing $234,142 in scholarships for Child Care and Day Camp.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Our YMCA believes in giving back to our neighbors and our extended community. We listen and respond to our communities' most critical needs. Y programs like the LiveStrong Cancer survivor program, our community garden, The Landing senior activity center, free memberships for refugees in our community, Healthy Kids Day, supporting and collaborating with local businesses, and staffing our neighboring communities' pools so that they can remain open, are all at the heart of our mission and social responsibility. Our staff, governance boards and program volunteers contributed many hours serving the mission of our Y, to help our community. The Woodson YMCA itself, in collaboration with our partners in and out of the area, work together to make a difference to all those within our local communities.
HEALTHY LIVING: The Y is the leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. Our programs and facility usage are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. In 2022 we provided $203,663 in financial assistance to 551 individuals and families who otherwise would have faced economic barriers to participate in YMCA membership.
